Phoenix could easily be compared to a wounded dog on a chain that lunges and snaps at anyone who approaches, regardless of the fact that it wounds and chokes itself with every lunge. Angry at the world after a lifetime of abuse and being constantly used, he doesn't trust anyone other than himself, and has essentially given up on hopes of finding people that will love him for who he is. Intense and mercurial, he can be very unpredictable in his reactions and what sets him off - he has an innumerable amount of triggers, some of which will throw him into a rage, some of which will throw him into a panic attack. Everything he feels, he feels to the extreme, burning through him like fire whether it's positive or negative.
Having grown up with a sort of aura that draws humans in like a magnet, makes them obsessed with him to the point of objectifying him, he uses his inflated ego to substitute for confidence and real self-esteem, neither of which he really possesses. Emotionally, he is extreme and hollow, perpetually a few genuine gentle touches away from having a complete sobbing meltdown, agonizingly lonely. His entire existence is a raw nerve pushing him to the edge of tolerance, leaving him self-destructive and impulsive, throwing himself into risky and even deadly situations without thinking, relying on the fact he "can't die" to save him.
Phoenix hates humans with a seething passion and thinks they're worthless, and wants nothing more than to be separate from them, to go somewhere where everyone is like him. Superhuman. Mythical. Beyond.
Appearance unstoppable, legendary animal
Tall and lanky, but with street-wise muscle built through a lifetime of fighting for his life, Phoenix is lean and quick and packs a punch. His nails are perpetually decorated with various patterns drawn in sharpie, his dark eyes are bright and intelligent and observe the world with a cutting-edge sharpness. His body language flips between slow and languid and whip-fast and abrupt, and he has a bad tendency to being over-touchy, often draping over the people around him or putting an arm around them, even if he doesn't like them. When at rest, he has no problem taking up a lot of space, legs splayed and leaning back, but he very rarely stops fidgeting with his hands.
While his facial expressions tend to be relatively neutral except when he's extremely angry, his rare smiles are radiant and he has a tendency to wrinkle his nose and puff his cheeks in a sort of squishy expression when thinking. Mid-toned and with a slight gravel edge, his voice comes out slow and lilting, flirting when he isn't shouting.
Backstory let your nails in my back be the same in my coffin
Phoenix was born to a perfectly average pair of human parents as the latest reincarnation of a phoenix, a mythological legendary bird capable of rebirth, healing, and fire manipulation. Growing up, his problems started very early - his parents were the first to fall victim to his particular aura of obsession. When he was a young child, his mother expressed this obsession with her "beautiful baby boy" by pushing him to be a child actor and performer, forcing him into various dance and acting classes, pushing and driving him until he nearly lost it. Sick of that, and after some other incidents at home, he eventually ran away with a boyfriend to escape both parents when he was around 15.
The boyfriend he left home with didn't take long to fall victim to the same obsession, and ended up taking some pretty drastic measures to ensure Phoenix stayed under his control. Phoenix doesn't remember much of his life between the time he ran away from home at 17 and age 22, but he knows his life went to some pretty dark places and that he went through several boyfriends during that period. He can't remember most of their names.
Around age 22, he started to get his life under control and seeking out other people like himself, slowly trying to get himself sorted out, sober and setting boundaries, albeit still making money in several less-than-legal ways. It's a work in progress.
Abilities or will you fucking fight back?
Resurrection/Rebirth: Phoenix often says he can't die, but that isn't quite accurate. He can die, just as easily as a human, in fact. The difference is that he will come back to life after a certain amount of time. The amount of time varies depending how healthy he was before dying, how badly he was injured, and how many times he dies in a row. If he is in top form before dying, he'll come back in about a day and a half; if he's weak, exhausted, sick, or the death takes a long time, it can take up to three days for him to come back. When he comes back, he comes back with all his injuries from the death, and his body heals from that point, requiring several days of recovery after he wakes up again. If he wakes up in a situation where he dies repeatedly in quick succession (eg. underwater and drowning, waking up, drowning again, etc.) the amount of time before he wakes up will go up by half with every death. If the amount of time between deaths allows his body to start decomposing, he will have permanent scars, limb loss, etc. corresponding to the amount of decay. The only way he can truly be killed is if the time between death and coming back is long enough for him to decompose to a nonfunctional level (eg. lungs or heart completely decayed, skeletal remains, etc.).
Healing/Resurrecting Others: Technically, Phoenix has the ability to heal others with the use of his tears, but it isn't something he's mastered very well, and he isn't very good at it. It is, as he describes it, very "fiddly" and takes a lot of focus, precision, and delicacy, none of which Phoenix is very good at. He also has the ability to bring others back from the dead (with the same restrictions and method as he comes back himself), which he is more comfortable with using, because it just involves throwing a lot of energy at a dead person until they wake up and then he stops. Because of the difference in difficulty between healing and resurrection, and his personality in general, Phoenix is far more likely to simply kill an injured companion and raise them again rather than trying to heal them. Even for stuff like a broken leg. Ask him to heal you at your own risk.
Fire Manipulation: Phoenix is not yet aware he can do this. When this ability awakens, he will be able to generate fire and manipulate/control what that fire does, make it larger or smaller, etc.
